Thoughts

I have only just discovered that Patrick died earlier this year. I first met him when I was living in Nottingham in the early 1970s. He was singing and playing his guitar at a Festival event, in which I was also taking part. He called himself Steve Ryde as a musician. I didn't see him again until about 1981, when he was a participant in a poetry weekend held at Cromford, Derbyshire. His first wife was there with the very young twins. Our next meeting was when my husband, Noel Harrower, and I joined the Creation Spirituality movement (now GreenSpirit), of which Patrick was also a member. So, he cropped up at various artistic and spiritual events in my life. I found him an affable, caring man and am sorry that he has died before what would now be considered the winter of life. With Best Wishes to all family and friends of Patrick's ... Jenny Johnson (poet)

Of course I probably knew my brother Patrick before anyone else that's still alive! My strongest memories of him are sporting : we both loved many ball games. He was big and strong, had fantastic hand-eye coordination, and represented county youth teams.. He wasn't over-competitive, he played fair, but his natural skills made him a great performer, probably above all as a batsman in cricket, where he smote the ball all over the field. Later in life he took to the pen rather than the bat, but I will always remember him in cricket whites on the green turf. Bob Huddie.
